And not just being able to string a few words together. Anyone who can talk can do that...

But so many people just don't know how to string a few words together to influence others...

I agree with you, when in remote situations.
I agree with sandalwood, when face to face.

Ever seen road rage? It only takes a look to have it escalate.

How many cops pull the trigger, because it looked threatening, when no real evidence of a serious threat existed?

We daily make decisions by our perceptions of our world, without uttering or hearing a word. Non verbal communication is certainly a skill which can be honed.

With words, they have to carry the thought to the other person, and be received. Too often our intent is misinterpreted, misconstrued or simply misses the mark.

Words must resonate, with the target at the right time, when optimal receptivity opens the doors.

It is a skill which is also polished through study and use.

Awareness and use of both, at the appropriate time enhances ones position in many situations. Being able to communicate and influence is a power tool in the business tool box.
