Re: Digital or print - some considerations

The short answer to how I got started is that I learned that there was going to be a new section of the NY Times on education, got a brainstorm for an article in that section, sent in a query letter and ended up publishing my first article in that new Sunday section. Then for ten years I wrote for national magazines and published a couple of books. It wasn't till 1992 that I started various entrepreneurial self-publishing ventures, including booklets (I sold about 6,000 copies of my second and third booklets each, at $2 a pop) and audiotapes. The report from which that article is excerpted includes a lot of what I learned from both print and digital booklet/report projects. The person from whom I learned the most about this business is also someone with whom I unfortunately had a number of frightening experiences. He threatened to harm me and ruin me(really!) after I refused to endorse a new book of his that I thought was half-baked.
