Looking after your health...
I still have health-wise ups and downs (I am type 2 diabetic)... though it's a lot better than it was 2 or 3 years ago...
It's just a reminder, look after your health! I think health has to be your number one priority... Without your health, you can't do much... Having said that, I think I've had good success with a "low carb" diet, which I'm (more or less) sticking to. I cut out a lot of starchy carbs... which means limiting bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. At the beginning, it was quite tough! But then, I found lower-carb substitutes... Like lower carb bread, for example (which I love)... Man, life was hard with no bread... I also try to walk regularly (at least 6000 steps per day)... I don't feel good if I don't get my walking in for the day... and that's probably a good sign! How about you...? Do you have any tips you could share which we could use to help improve our health? Best wishes, Dien

It does seem that type 2 diabetes can be reversed... It might require an extreme diet, which can be hard to do when you are very busy, juggling various projects...! I have a friend who had type 2 diabetes, and over less than a year, he got rid of it! His secret? He exercised for several hours every day, and also went on a very restrictive diet. The catch? He was able to spend all that time exercising because he had no job, and was living on unemployment benefits... Maybe I need to slow down... (Easy to say, but it can be hard to do!) Best wishes, Dien

Pretty harsh diet.
Quote:
A doctor wrote a book on how he cured his diabetes, several years ago. No fruits, carbs, starches, high in protein Many veg snacks several times a day. His cure, eat little, eat often, eat to live...not live to eat. He lived a long life; miserable, friendless and died of cancer. But he cured his diabetes. GordonJ |

Eat like a Swede...
Quote:
Well, maybe there is a balance to be had? So much information out there contradicts each other! It's a confusing puzzle to know what to do. On another note... Sweden rejects the low-fat diet they recommend to diabetics in the USA (and many other places). Instead, the Swedes recommend diabetics eat a low-carb, high-fat diet... http://healthimpactnews.com/2013/swe...fat-nutrition/ http://www.dietdoctor.com/swedish-ex...ve-weight-loss I dunno... Those Swedes! All I know is that their low carb, high fat, low clothing (*) lifestyle could be for me! Best wishes, Dien (*) If you ever are in Sweden without your clothing, here are the rules... http://www.thelocal.se/galleries/Lif...s-of-nakedness
