(Though I'm worried about liability - apparently insurance rates for public "events" are sky-high nowadays....) Anyhow, I found some books on Amazon.... Here are the links:
I haven't read these books myself - But I hope that that helps anyhow. Buy at own risk! :) Don Alm might know something about this. He's posted about the adventure travel business before. I hope Don sees this and will post something on this topic. :) - Dien |

![]() Boyd....read all the books you can get on "Setting Up A Tour Biz"....especially clock in how others have "Marketed and Promoted and Sold" their tours....then....go talk to someone who has already packaged and sold Tours.
Now....initially, YOU do NOT want to "do-it-all-yourself"! You want to "work with" someone who has done it...preferably on a "Flat-Fee" basis. Find a local travel agent who has put trips together. Ask them if they'd be interested in putting together a trip for you for X number of people....where they would charge you a "flat-fee" to put it together and you would be responsible for selling the package for "Y" dollars. Many Banks nowadays have "Over 55" or "Senior" clubs with ONE PERSON in charge of putting the Tours together. You could ask that person if they'd be interested in working with you on putting a package together, not necessarily for seniors. Work thru their organization...let them get the "insurance"...the tickets...make the arrangements...etc. All you do is SELL...for which you take a hefty commission. When I helped a buddy put together a "Siberian Black Bear Hunting Trip" in the Aspen area, we charged $10,000 per person and we were charged $6,000 Flat Fee for someone else to arrange the details. Our "commission" for selling the 10 tickets per trip was $40,000 per trip. Before I left Colorado I had helped sell 7 or 8 "Bear Hunt" trips back in the 80's. It was FUN. We'd rent a conference room for a Monday night (the Aspen Times was published on a Thurs so this gave prospects time to plan on attending)....run 1/2 page ads for the "GREAT SIBERIAN BLACK BEAR HUNT". Have prospects call our recorded message which gave more info and we could capture their name and phone for a "verification" return call. Our first intro we had over 50. We ran slides of where the trip would take place...photos of the Bears...breakdown on costs and what they'd get for their $10,000. WOW! Talk about a "Hungry Market"...these people were RAVENOUS. So we knew we had a "tiger by the tail". Even before we announced "anyone interested please fill out the form and hand it in!"...people were making out checks and running up and giving them to us. We instantly filled the first 10 spaces and collected deposits of $1,000 from 18 or 19 others, so we knew we'd be putting on 2 more hunts. Sure is a great feeling to be in a "marketplace of people WITH MONEY...with something they WANT!" So...again...my suggestion is to; 1) get acquainted with the "tour" biz by reading books available 2) talk to local agents who have put together "packages". find out if they'd be willing to put together a tour for you and give you a "flat fee" for everything. 3) you come up with a "dynomite tour" 4) rent a conference room OR...find a "niche market" and put up a website explaining the tour and have prospects sign up...on-line. For example; In my area, there's a lumber company with 3,000 employees. THIS represents a "niche" market. These people would like to take Tours together to "Hawaii"...the "Alaska Inland Passage"....DisneyLand...etc. So...I have the woman who puts together tours for my bank putting together other tours. And again...don't try and do-it-yourself. Have someone else "package" the trips for a "flat fee" and you mark up the price accordingly just for "selling the tickets". ![]() Hi Don,
Thanks a lot for this post! I like your approach to this business.... I was worried about insurance and liability - your approach eliminates those worries because the people who are actually taking the tours would be the ones responsible for that (I think).... I was talking with a friend the other day (there's nothing I like better than sipping a hot beverage in a cafe, talking about mind-blowing ideas) - and he remarked how what many people want nowadays is a relief from boredom.... Many people are bored, and want a little excitement - something new and different. Your "adventure tours" idea is really just what some people (with the dough) really want, to "spice up" their lives.... - Dien Rice The only ezine which will SAVE you time.... |

![]() I get "travel email deals" all the time. I just happened to get one yeaterday where I can point out to you how doggone easy it is to make money with this "travel" thingee.
Because I belong to the local Chamber of Comm, I was sent an email telling about how I could go to Tahiti for a week for $1377 from LA. The email had a great photo and asked me to call the travel agent if interested. (The EXACT email I received from the travel agent is at the Link below this message) Well...I called and asked if there was a way where "I" could "sell tickets" for more money and pay them their $1377 per ticket. Well...there IS a way where I could sell tickets for MORE than $1377....and pocket $1,000 per ticket. Now...watch how MY mind works; The tickets this travel agent is selling is "from LA". This means each ticket purchaser in my town must "find a way to get to LA". Hey! I don't know about you but...if I am over 55 and wanting to go to Tahiti for a week...I sure as heck ain't gonna hitchhike 800 miles. I ain't gonna get onto a stuffy, crowded bus either. Nope...I figure I've worked hard the last 35 yrs and "can afford" to "go first class". If "I" was interested in this trip to Tahiti I know I'd want to drive to Eugene, OR...and take a flight to LA. So....what if I put together (with the help of the travel agent) an additional "package" going from my town to the airport in Eugene? What if I put together (with the help of the travel agent) a "package" going from Eugene (pop 120,000)...and a "package" of folks going from the Medford airport (pop 80,000) So...what if I had a "niche" market of relatively affluent people in my area that I could send a postcard to or run an ad telling about this "dream trip" and for more info they could call a recorded message. (A "recorded message" is non-intimidating and...they are NOT YET ready to purchase tickets...they need a little more info) The recorded message would tell them about a "Slide Presentation" they could attend at the Holiday Inn Conference Room on Tues eve at 7pm sharp. And if they were interested in attending this "slide presentation on the Tahiti trip" they were to call our "Registration Line" and "Register" for the Slide Show. Well....what do ya wanna bet I could get 20 or 30 people to attend that Slide Show...and sell 5 or 6 tickets (maybe more) I will betcha "I" using the above format..."I" could sell 100 tickets where MY end would be $1,000 per ticket. Now...your expense would be for a Voice Mail Line and postcards to the "niche" market and some newspaper ads in the Sunday Travel section. Not too much of a "gamble" to make for a potential $100,000 take home pay. In fact...if you hit the "right" niche...you could sell 100 tickets within 1 month. PLUS....you and your spouse can go along on teh trip for NADA! Hey! This gets more exciting the more I think about it. Now...you wonder how "people like ME" have made money all these years...without the slightest thought of "looking for a JOB"...no matter how bad the economy was? I just showed you how "US entroopeneers" THINK! It's an EXCITING lifestyle we live. Now...it's YOUR turn to "put on YOUR thinking caps" and....do something that separates "US entroopeneers" from everyone else....PICK UP THE PHONE and start checking THIS out! It is possible for YOU who are reading THESE words to "take an idea" (that's what you've just been reading)...invest maybe $500...with the potential of earning an EASY $100G in a few weeks of "work". DO IT! Don Alm > Boyd....read all the books you can get on > "Setting Up A Tour > Biz"....especially clock in how others > have "Marketed and Promoted and > Sold" their tours....then....go talk to > someone who has already packaged and sold > Tours. > Now....initially, YOU do NOT want to > "do-it-all-yourself"! ![]() For you "really Lazy" people out there;
You do NOT have to get involved in providing extra accomodations. Just sell the SAME tickets the travel agency is selling only jack up your ticket price to $2377! Hey! If YOU can sell 100 extra tickets....you SHOULD BE COMPENSATED for your "effort"! SO what's an extra thou to those who "have it"? It's not like you're taking grocery money from the hands of welfare mothers. Have fun! Don Alm > I get "travel email deals" all the > time.
