Default Cement Cleaning

Hi Folks:

The cement cleaning business is very good these days. Don is right in that there is good money in this service, however, there is more to this than meets the eye.

As some of you know, I own a cleaning business that I run with a 4 man crew. Although I have done maybe a dozen of these types of jobs in my cleaning career, I have some friends that steam-clean quite a few auto station bays and large machine shops. The chemicals required are simple enough and can be found at most janitorial houses or on the internet if you type in "degreasers". However, you need more than just a push broom to clean these very greasy auto shops.

At minimum you will need a high pressure hot-water power-washer and shop vac or an automatic scrubber. De-greasers are sprayed on the floor, scrubbed with a brush and then rinsed off. On the other hand some operators use a steam cleaner with a cement floor cleaning attachment which is a significant investment. Serious operators use this type of equipment to clean cement floors along with sidewalks that may have stains or gum or grease.

My friends use a steam cleaner that heats the water up very hot to 220 degrees plus, which literally steams the oil out and cleans the grease off.

Many auto stations are applying epoxy to coat the bare cement floor. Then a simple mop can wipe up the mess at the end of the day, leaving no stains. This is a profitable service niche for some cleaning companies because the cleaning and epoxy application can be done at the same time.
