Things You Can Do With An Advanced Degree in Physics.......
I received a package in the mail last week that made me smile
in delighted surprise. It came from my sister, although I did not realize it at first. I should have known right away, as it was addressed to Julie Jordan, which I have not gone by for more than ten years now. I turned the package over in my hands, reading all the words, digesting it bit by bit. And then I thought, it is amazing the things one can do with an advanced degree in Physics. Look at Dien! He has an advanced degree in Physics and runs the show here at Sowpub. Did you know he is also Dr. Dien Rice? He has a PhD in Physics. Now when you think "Physicist" what is your first mind picture? Yet Dien, while loving Physics and remaining very much a Physicist he is also an entrepreneur, a publisher, a webmaster (I did not realize until recently that http://www.entrepreneur-web.com/ is another site of Dien's. One of my favorite things about Dien is his creativity in thinking. My brother in law also has an advanced degree in Physics. Like Dien, he has taught (and still teaches) Physics and Math at a college here in California. Yet beyond his 8-5 gig, he is now building something more. On my package, there was a website. Another dimension of my brother in law I did not know. Check it out here: http://www.plainandtall.com Another physicist following his heart, following his dreams, simply being his best authentic self and blessing the rest of us purely by being himself. Too often people shortchange themselves into thinking they can't do this or that because they don't have the education they think they need, or they feel stuck in a certain role, or their expectations don't match their current or past realities and they are too afraid to change. Dien and Keith, my brother in law, are living, breathing, inspiring examples that an advanced degree in physics can get you many unexpected places. What do you suppose my degree is in? It might surprise you to find out! When I graduated from college, I had more job offers than any of my peers. I could have had more, I suppose. I learned how to leverage my talents and abilities with my education. And thats what we do, as entrepreneurs. Just some food for thought on a Monday Night. Happy October Everyone!
