Default "Marketing Outrageously"

In a thread below Dien talks about some of his favorite marketing books, included is "Marketing Outrageously" by Jon Spoelstra... and I agree with Dien that it is a "must read".

Marketing outrageously is certainly a very good way of getting your message out in a very-cluttered marketing environment.

The question is who or what company is marketing outrageously at this point? I have to admit I don't know too many... offline or online.

I try to pay attention to the revenue increases of major companies to see who is doing things right... I can tell you many aren't doing it right.

Obviously McDonald's has lost it. They haven't marketed outrageously in years.

Lowe's seems to be doing something right, Home Depot doesn't.

Nordstroms has lost it, Nieman Marcus is doing something right.

In the online world, I don't see many marketing outrageously. Everyone seems to be pleading the same way to sell their ebooks or ezines. I visit a lot of marketing forums and I see the same old tired sale's pitches in all of them. Is anyone doing anything new and different?

Take care,

Default Ya....Here's an "Outrageous" deal...

My buddy and I (among other things) install "Information Boards" at Visitor Centers in tourist towns mostly.

These are wood boards with Maps of the area, a Phone and Ads of local Lodges and Restaurants and places of interest to Tourists.

Jimmy just got 18 Sales for $24,000 this last week. 12 spaces left, which he'll have no problem filling next week.

We use a WebSite to sell the ads; Take a look!
http://www.infoboards.com (That is outrageous)

Hotels/Motels LOVE the Info Boards because the board puts their lodges in front of tourists AND tourists can use the phone to make reservations....which equates to MORE BUSINESS for the lodges.

Anyway...the reason this is "outrageous" is because here we are in the year 2003...armed with nothing more than an "idea" and a few photos on a website and yet people can STILL make a BUNDLE OF CASH starting with less than $100.

The "Net" from the Lincoln-Woodstock board will be over $30,000 from a $100 "investment".

What is REALLY outrageous is...most people on the internet, looking for ways to make a buck, do NOT even consider using the net to help them make "Direct Sales"....offline.

That's what we do. We contact Hotel/Motel managers/owners and tell them to go up to our website...while we're on the phone. I can do this from 3,000 miles away (isn't THAT outrageous?)

We explain their Ad on this Board will be seen by thousands of tourists and the tourists can even call to reserve a room.

We explain the price and ask if they want to participate...thus far the answer has been, "Yes!" 90% of the time. (THAT is REALLY outrageous)

Thanks......Don Alm

Default An Outrageous Off-line Business

Hello My Friends,

I too have searched from web-site to web-site trying to figure out the key to on-line success. I tried a few things, but came up empty.

Then I got back to my roots. You see.... I'm an off-line marketer. I realized a huge niche in the computer business. Companies like Best Buy and Dell turn down thousands each day because of poor credit. Does that mean these people can't pay for a computer? Absolutely not!!! So...I started selling computers to those with credit problems.

Currently, I have a nice residual income built up and I'm also flipping computers to make "Quick Cash." This business rocks for me!!

As a matter of fact, I even put together a course that includes all the marketing materials, scripts, forms, and techniques that I use on a daily basis. This has become a supplemental business in addition to making computer sales.

That formula has proven to be successful. Here it is in a nut shell:

1. Be successful at a realistic off-line business

2. Share your success with others

3. Develop a course to help those who are interested

4. Sell the course as a secondary profit center

5. Continue to work your business off line

That's my 7 cents....and thatt's what I call successful outrageous marketing!

Default Mix it to fix it....

...as someone who is old enough to have learned real direct sales skills AND has had some online success I want to tell it how it is.

Yes its possible to find a niche put up a 'mini site' and make some good money. But in todays info overload world if you dont know where to find the right info you are whistling in the wind... there is just TOO much crap out there

A mix of on and offline is where its at. Vondre and Don are absolute gold dust examples

All you have to do is pay the price to learn the sales SKILLS (the problem is it may take 3-6 months of real effort) and honestly you could NOT fail

But try and tell anybody in these instant 'I want it now' days that it would take this long is not what they WANT to hear. So they have costly failures and start again ...6 months, 1 year, 5 years down the line...still without the sales SKILLS that would make ANY business they chose to go in to succeed.

And so the self defeating cylce continues...often for a LIFETIME. So sad but true.

Get the only thing you need. Tri=ue sales skills and then you can use a mix of on and offline mediums. Success then is guaranteed.

I reckon anyway

Take care,
Andy

Default Re: "Marketing Outrageously"

Hi Michael,

Great question....and right away I was able to come up with an answer of a company here in California (and since I found their website) in other places as well now, I think qualifies.

Jack in the Box is a fast food restaurant that has a unique menu, serves breakfast all day AND has a very funny and inventive ad campaign starring its "founder" Jack. As in Jack in the Box.

Go to the site and you will find all kinds of "outrageous" items as well as standard features (although I wonder if McDonald's and Burger King have ezines to sign up for? Jack's does and YES! I signed up).

My personal favorite is a plea from the "organization" called "The Society for the Betterment of Antenna Balls."

Click on Jack's office and see what I mean:

With Passion,

Julie

Can't find any antenna balls here!

Default Re: "Marketing Outrageously"

Here is a website which supports an
offline home business. This site breaks
all" the rules": the total pages are 15,000
and growing. The web owner doesn't give
a hoot about "how sites are suppose to
be"...I've been satisfied with some of
his products.

I'm not sure if this meets your definition
of "outrageous"...but for this web marketer:
his own technique is working....
