Default A success story I thought you'd all enjoy

If you haven't already considered eBay as part of your escape from the rat race strategy do so today.

I say this for one simple reason. It is a fun way to make real money.

Richard Weston gave it a go and managed to turn a box of items he virtually gave away a few years ago into a business which in April alone brought in £50,000.

That's right. £50,000 in one month on eBay. About US$75,000!

Richard owns a photographic shop in Letchworth, England, and any old stock used to be thrown into a box at the front of the shop and sold off for next to nothing.

Then someone suggested putting it on eBay instead and he gave it a go.

"Instead of getting about £10 for our left over bits and pieces," Richard recently said in an article for eBay, "We were getting £200 . . . and we haven't looked back since. eBay alone generated £50,000 in April from over 350 photographic items ranging from mini tripods to digital SLRs."

Independent photographic businesses are suffering like all small shops in a world where giant chains now dominate the retail market.

But thanks to eBay - which now accounts for 70% of Richard's turnover - business is booming for one small shop in Letchworth, Surrey.

"I put our success down to the large market we can reach through eBay.co.uk. Now that we know we've got this huge market, we've started buying in much larger quantities at cheaper prices.

"We often approach companies to buy their excess stock and we're getting a name for ourselves as a channel for photographic companies to use when they need to move goods. Some of our products don't go in the shop at all now - they're exclusive to eBay."

Richard doesn't just sell photographic equipment. He sells photographic equipment well. He offers detailed descriptions, responds to e-mails promptly and gets items sent out quickly too. Over 1,000 repeat customers underline the key to success in any business by doing things right.

Put a digital camera on eBay with a lousy description, no photo, don't answer e-mails and then send it six weeks after you've been paid in next to no packaging so that it arrives damaged and you will not be making £50,000 a month.

But you're not stupid. I don't really need to tell you that.

One very important point I do want to ram home though no matter how bright you are.

Don't just read the above story and then do nothing about it.

Here's a guy making up to £50,000 a month on eBay for Pete's sake.

Your first thought should be how can I do the same?

Could you start a business selling items - old or new - on eBay?

Is there a category on eBay that will allow you to combine one of your passions with making money? Take a look NOW at either www.ebay.com or www.ebay.co.uk.

Can you think of a business in your home town that would benefit from using eBay as an alternative shop window?

Could you earn money helping them do just that?

Give it some serious thought because making money doesn't have to be hard labour.

Escaping the rat race can be as easy as trading on eBay for a couple of hours every night until you earn more from sitting at home than you do going out to work.

Imagine it.

No work. Just eBay.
