If you're talking about Gary Halbert and stars like him, there is a big "experience" factor - that is, people expect to be uniquely entertained as well as informed. Also, there is an "inspiration" factor. If someone gets just one new idea that helps them accomplish a certain goal (which may or may not make them $6,000 back), they may be very happy having spent that much on the seminar. Not everyone pays expecting to get their money back. You can tell this from comments people make at the end of a seminar when they have not had a chance to apply anything at all yet.
