Default #1 in Google

One of my "AD-Ventures" is to provide "TV Channel Guides" for Hotels.

These are placed in every room of participating Hotels at no charge. They show the room guests where the TV Channels are on the TV in their room.

On the Front of my piece is the Hotel Logo and other info and...a Picture of a Mouth-watering PIZZA. This is easily seen by someone who is HUNGRY.

On the back are Ads for other restaurants, gift shops or realtors.

Well....I've been "Playing with my Search Engine stuff and...TODAY....if you type into Google, "TV Channel Guides", with the quote marks, I come up NUMERO UNO on the First Page!

Yippee! Yahoo! Cowabunga!

Take a minute and go up and take a look. This site is NOT "designed" by a "Professional Graphic Designer" HOWEVER....guess what....it does the job for me and helps me sell Hotels and Advertisers.

Excuse my excitement. If a NON-designer guy can make money from a site like this...it says 2 things about "Web Design";

1) Sometimes it's the PRODUCT that counts and NOT the Design of the site that's important!
and
2) If a NON-Graphic Designer Nerd, like me, can do this...ANYONE CAN!

Now all you have to do, Don, is figure out how to become #1 on Google WITH OUT the quote marks. Very seldom will someone put their search terms in quotes.

Also, forget about #1! If you do a good enough job, just being on the first page in a Google search will do you a world of good. It helps to pull in more traffic, which in turn ranks you even higher on Google, which pull more traffic, yada-yada-yada.

As an example: hotsheet gold (no quotes) #1 on Google.
pick-3-system (no quotes) #1 on Google
pete cooks (no quotes) #9 (front page) of Google

One thing you can do, Don is to search out keywords and put them into your page code. It will give you the top search words for your product, and you just insert them into the page code. (email me if you need more info on this)
A FREE tool is: http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

Good luck!

Pete

Default Getting #1 in Google Is A Doddle

Ah, the old "wrap quotes around it" trick

Hey... if you type "ARE ALL PRODUCTS MADE IN CHINA, MADE WELL" in quotes and put it into Google, it also comes up Numero Uno.

If you type in "effective in-room advertising" in quotes you also come up on Google - not top, but two and three out of three.

If you type "Full Color Mini-Billboards in Hotel Rooms" in quotes into Google you are the only listing. Without quotes and others come up - including a link that places Advertising on Hotel Key Rings/Tags.

It's actually quite Easy to get Top Listing in Google when you isolate words from a webpage and put them in quotes to do the search. But as Pete says... the aim is to achieve that Without the quotes.

And in your case... when someone types in TV Guide, or TV Channel Guide - as opposed to the plural "guides".

Actually....the MAIN PURPOSE of this website is NOT to bring in "Traffic" from consumers OR...anyone else.

I phone my prospects and tell them to take a look at this site...while I'm ON the phone with them. We discuss the program and I get a "Yea!" or "Nay!"

So....the ONLY person I'm interested in seeing this site is the potential customer I have on the phone at the time.

I just thought it was "neat" that I got #1 for these "THREE" words.

I understand that if I get a Domain Name like, "www.AdvertiseInHotelRoomsInOregonAndPossiblyOther CitiesInOtherTownsAcrossAmerica.com (IN quotes).....this would probably be #1 in Google for this "Phrase", so...your attempt to "educate" me and possibly "diffuse" my excitement, didn't work!

I am STILL excited about being NUMERO UNO on the NUMERO UNO PAGE...for THIS particular "Phrase....IN Quotes!

Now you can go back to what you were doing. I'm takin' my honee out fer Din Din....in "Celebration".

Default Anyone can get top Google Position

So if your MAIN PURPOSE is NOT to bring traffic from customers or anyone else, why do you care what Position your site had on Google?

And I don't care about your Excitement Level at getting top billing. Merely pointing out to You - and others - that Top Google Billing is not as Like Wow as it's made out to be. After all, you also got top billing for Other things in quotes too.

I just typed in "Stay home save gas" with and without quotes, and Gordo's post comes up top three either way - top with quotes.

Type in "Handicapper General" - with or without quotes - and the results are the same for the top six spots. With the "Harrison Bergeron By" being the one where the term originates - it's a real short story about making everyone equal, you should like it Don.

With a bit of creative searching, anyone can be top on Google - depending on how you search. That's my point.
