Default Re: What Top 5 Books Will You Read In 2009?

I haven't thought about it yet. I am currently reading Tomb Of The Golden Bird by Elizabeth Peters. I actually do not plan on what I'm going to read next. I just read whatever is available next. I read just about anything I get my hands on..

Thanks,

Hector

His point is not false. But its not entirely true either. Because how many other kids were in Gates school too - who had access to the computer but didn't make use of it in 1968? A few hundred?

Hi Ankesh,

Thanks for your very helpful review!

The example of Bill Gates that you shared with us is instructive. Bill Gates put in 10,000 hours on computers back in the very early days. Of course, he had that opportunity, and had the focus and drive to do that. And computers ended up becoming very important.

However, many of us have the opportunity to put in many hours into new technologies. How many of us take the opportunity?

E.g. New technologies that have appeared in recent years are... blogging, podcasting, online video, etc. What's next? What's new that's coming up?

Perhaps the "lesson" here is to look at what's coming up, make an assessment of how important it will be, then put in the hours to "master" it if it looks sufficiently promising!

Just some thoughts...

Best wishes

Dien

Default "How to Get AnyBody to Do Anything" - Hanes

Hi,

Thanks.

I love the way the writer of this book bushwacks and blackmails THE affluent and gets them to FORK over their cash.

When 5 seconds before they had NO INTENTION of giving a dime.

By the way.

The REASON You will not have heard of this R. Philip Hanes Character is he works in the south mostly. Much of his mayhem is in southern cities. AND he focuses on revitalizing town centers by bringing THE ARTS to town.

Ok.

Let me share a short story to get you Salivating over this book packed full of clever sales and strategic thinking.

Mr Hanes gets a call from the mayor of ABC Town.

The mayor has promised to Create a Theater for The Arts in his campaign. But now he can't raise the money. He asks for help.

I - Hanes asks for the names of the 5 richest folks in the Mayors district.

II - Then Hanes Works the phones to find Friends of Friends of Friends who can Refer him to people - ON the Ground in the Mayors town who are Sympathetic. And willing to help.

III - BEFORE Hanes gets into an airplane. He's lined up 5 or 6 locals (BY REFERRAL) willing to donate 100K each to the project.

IV - Hanes flies down and holds a cocktail party for the RICH. The Best Entertainment, at the Biggest Mansion, Best food, drink and music.

HANES Gives a carefully scripted TOAST.

He compliments the 3 managers of 3 different billion dollar corporations. Has them introduce their wives and children.

They ALL agree that their families would benefit from the Mayors Art Center - if only they could find the Funds.

V - Then Hanes STICKS in The Knife. ASKS for people to stand up and Give 100K or more to the Art Fund.

#1 -

#2 -

#3 -

#4 -

#5 -

#6 - of his SEED MONEY Friends Stand Up and FORK over 100K.

THEN
The
Entire
ROOM full of people

Physically TURN and look at the BIG Managers with the BIG Budgets and DEEP Pockets and all the family, wives and kids...

They sheepishly FORK over the REST of the 1.3 million required.

BRILLIANT.

Mr Hanes uses OPM to force people to give using PEER Pressure.

Thanks,
Glenn
