![]() Phil,
In the last decade, and even further back, I've watched a certain phenomenon repeated over and over. I teach a WHITE BOARD use, and it is really great for short term projects. For example, putting a biz specific manual together, like the Headlight Cleaning Manual. And I've seen MANY people over the years actually create HOTSHEETS, and add some reports, and even develop kits. BUT, what is missing is, these short term projects don't fit into a larger WHITE BOARD of a person's life. Working with Entrepreneurial type projects where the focus is on making money, it seems to lapse into a short time period...what I mean, some guys have projects they did 5 or 6 years ago, and those are now up on the shelf. They didn't incorporate them into a larger goal, a greater perspective and maybe, they didn't want to. Short term served the purpose. Let me take Chatteling. I just recently got email from a guy who did pretty well in a very specific niche, a hobby niche, and made some decent money...into the thousands of dollars. So, now he wants the advanced higher dollar amounts, and the question I asked, how is his network of BUYERS doing? Doesn't have one of course. Which is fine, buying and selling wasn't to be his career, he dabbled and made some money, which is great. But it is my opinion, that money-making activities should be a part of, folded into, purposeful as a part of your overall life. Which brings me to my point (finally??!) which is LONG range planning, let's say, THREE years down the road. Less than a college sentence (some kids think they are being punished)... So, it is pretty easy to create a product in 30 days, or lay the foundation of a business in 90 days and not unusual to be profitable from the get go on many products...but where does this fit into your life 3 years down the road? Can you all remember 3 years ago, 2009? Obama was the President, we had major recession, banks and Wall St. getting infrastructure support while our bridges were falling apart. NOT hard to do is it. Yet, how many are looking 3 years down the road and building products, services and living in the moment with an eye on their future? I'd say not many. I love WHITE BOARDS, they are great for tracking progress, but, just keep in mind, there is the bigger White Board in the Sky...that is tracking your life as it keeps on rolling along. It is pretty easy and simple to make money with any of 1001 ways...a little bit more concentration and goal setting to turn your project into a sustaining business. Maybe you don't want a sustaining biz...that's OK, cause there is always chattel out there looking for a new owner. Gordon Jay Alexander PS. Having spent the last 4 years in and out of hospitals and getting slapped in the face by health issues, I know and understand that sometimes, Stuff Happens. Which is why having a goal in the short run can get interfered with, but, it is all part of life...up til your dead. LIFE? Got Some? |

![]() ouch! that post was like an arrow & it got me right in the side!
not a mortal wound though ... MY "rich dad" (relating advice from his real dad) said you could only really juggle three things at once. their scenario -- being involved in a community bank, owning rental property and owning farmland (BIG rent once a year.) 1 - 2 - 3, all the activities flowed and in fact reinforced one another. my attempts to emulate that? mixed bag, some winners, some distractions but never a "flow" from one activity to the other. ![]() Hi,
I 've heard mention of "white board use" before but can't find a description of the process. Can anyone enlighten me? I know, silly question, but always been a bit slow on the uptake ;-) Part 2. Am about to invest in Gordon's Chatteling report. Any UK sowpubbers able to tell me how well the process works over this side of the pond. Only reason I ask is that Craigslist seems pretty light on reasonably priced offerings in Kent. Thanks, Paul. |

Paul, In Kent, there isn't a lot of chattel, but, there is enough. When dealing with this type of area, you have to think sides of town, or villages nearby too. What you do is go to Craigslist and use a dollar amount, say 99 to 301 and then QUICKLY go through the sections looking for what you think could be a profitable transaction...then you go to ebay, amazon and try to get a feel for what this thing sells for. In the case of exercise equipment, there is always stuff available and always stuff being sold. It takes a little time, I suggest you follow along on your local Kent craigslist, call and ask what their bottom line is (not as good as waving cash under their noses) but do 15 mins a day and get a feel for what is being sold. As for Whiteboards. I'll have to find some pics that aren't personal. I have people use a small whiteboard, about 2 to 3 feet by 2 ft or so, and homemade ones work great PAPER covered with clear contact paper, and it needs to hang or sit right next to the computer/desk where it can be looked at every day. Across the top from left to right is the TIME line. How long is the project. On the left side they draw a pryamid or bldg, this is also a time line but with the step by step process. Starting at the END of the project, what does it look like? What is the finished project? Then you start backing down the steps of the pyramid until you ]get to the bottom, or the starting point. This is a simplistic overview, but the start of the project is the End. In Harvey Brody "speak", the bldg has a rooftop, and you have to clearly see the view from the rooftop, and then backs down the steps up the side, think of a fire escape on the side of the bldg... the very last step at the top is the step off rung, what does this look like. By using a White Board, you can clearly see where you are at with your project, what stumbling blocks there are, and what you have to do to reach the top of the pyramid/bldg. Gordon Alexander Quote:

I'm not in the UK (I'm in the land downunder, the one that Kylie Minogue, Clive James, and Rolf Harris all fled from!)... However... I've noticed that "Gumtree" is often "bigger" outside of the USA than Craigslist, so you might want to try that...
