Ankesh—some good points—more food for thought. Hourly tutoring is an interesting proposition, but not a passion—and I would be teaching English, since I am not qualified to teach the languages I speak conversationally. I created the website I wished I’d had all along, and maybe that’s the question: is there a market for something I wanted? We’ll see. I do love the twist you suggested on marketing (learn a language slowly). LindaC—There is a college where I live, and I’ve been meaning to drop by their language classes with a stack of business cards I’ve already created…A good reminder about the resources in my own backyard. Cornell—“exposure to potential users” is exactly what I’m thinking about, and I really like the idea about the boomer article. Phil—two great links I hadn’t seen before, a wonderful jumping-off point to find people to connect with on this subject. Time is the most precious resource, since you can’t create more of it. I truly appreciate the time you’ve all taken to read the backstory and post your thoughts here--it has been a huge help. Cheers, Cindy |
