Default "Big bucks" from "free soap"...!

This lady makes and sells soap... However, the unusual thing is, she gets her raw materials for free!

She makes soap from used cooking oil. She gets it free from "ma and pa" restaurants, because they "don't use it to death"...

She sells each bar of soap for prices from $3.75 to $4.75...

Interesting way to do this business!

She's a one-woman business, and can make 244 bars a day. Let's see... That's a minimum of... $915 bucks a day...!

(She sells them from her website. However, even if she sold them wholesale rather than retail... even half or a third of that, per day, ain't too shabby! Especially when your main raw ingredient is free!)

Here's another "twist" to this story...

A friend of mine has also been looking at used cooking oil - and I tell you, there's no shortage of it out there, which you can get for free. He even found an industrial source where he could get tons of the stuff (you read that right, literally tons), for free. The reason why is, they have to pay to get rid of it! If you take it from these kind of people, they're as happy as clams, because it actually saves them money...

You can also use it (after processing it) as fuel for diesel engines... Check out these links...

Just one more "angle" on this idea...

Best wishes!

Hi Phil,

Thanks for thinking of me!

About 7 years ago Gordon Jay helped me walk through the process of developing an info product about making and selling soap.

We were, and still are, living on a small farm and selling soap as one money making venture.

So Gordon started me off by helping me put together a hotsheet, and then we just developed a whole little collection of products.

The original soap making info product, which we called the SoapBizKit, still sells.

As you pointed out, we have some related Kindle books out too.

You know... there's a funny thing about all this.

My children have the vision of getting out there and doing something and working mostly from home.

One of my sons makes custom knives and is doing great with that venture.

A daughter has taken over the soap business.

But like you say, we're still around and still coming out with products and trying to market them.

It started from a great guy, Gordon Jay Alexander, spending time with me to help me.

That was possible because of this forum that Dien and Gordon put together.

And it started with one hotsheet.

Thanks,

Alan Bullington

Hi Alan,

Thanks for posting about your story, and your "SoapBizKit!"

The reality is, it is easy for someone to keep "spinning their wheels" trying to figure out what works, while wasting a lot of their time and money.

I only have a limited number of hours on this earth, and I certainly don't want to waste more hours than I need to! I've bought many, many business reports, and most of them have been like "shortcuts" to figuring out what works (and what doesn't)...

Reports like yours, Alan, save many people time and money... So it's a great thing you're still selling it. When you get customers for your report, it's win/win!

Thanks for posting!

Best wishes,

Dien

I love stories like this. The past two decades has seen a significant rise in entrepreneurs who have been savvy enough to turn garbage into gold. There is a company that uses old dog food bags that are thrown away to make toys and clothing for pets. I have seen other business models that use garbage in new and interesting ways. They turn this garbage into a new product. Absolutely brilliant. This woman has a great idea in mind, and I think she could turn this into a home based business model and sell people the information to make this soap for her. Then she could focus on only making sales and allow people to pay her for the free soap, and pay her to have the rights to make the free soap for her.
