![]() Hi Glenn,
Wow, you really think ahead with your fuel buying… That's smart! Though many people can't - or won't - do it! As for Australia… Australia is a petroleum exporter, so you'd think gasoline would be cheap! But you'd be surprised… Why? It's because we have a huge government tax on gasoline here in Australia… I just looked it up, and I'd say that right now, the average price is $1.97 Australian dollars per liter… That converts to about $4.72 US dollars per gallon for gas… It turns out that about $1.22 US dollars of that is government tax… Then a 10% sales tax is added (which is incorporated into the price here)... So the sales tax is around 43 US cents… Therefore, in total, out of the $4.72 US dollars per gallon, about $1.65 US dollars per gallon is tax - or around 35% tax! In contrast, I read in the US, federal tax on gasoline is around 18.4 cents per gallon - compared to $1.65 US dollars per gallon in Australia! If Australian tax on gasoline was the same as in the USA, gas per gallon would cost more like $3.25 US dollars per gallon before sales tax - or $3.57 after you add the sales tax... The HUGE tax on gasoline is such a money-spinner for the government in Australia, that my state (Victoria) levies an extra tax specially for electric vehicles - to compensate for the money the government's losing on electric vehicles, due to lower sales of gasoline! So there you go… ![]() Best wishes! Dien Quote:
