Re: Fall communiqué. Can you help me?
Re teaching seniors:
I used to be a high school teacher and I did teach my mom to use the computer. Gave her a computer and some basic instructions and figured that would be it. Three weeks later, I get a call from Mom, who's gotten onto the Internet and downloaded a zipfile and wanted to know how to extract it. And things progressed from there. I recently gave Dad a Palmpilot (Palm 7; the wireless one.) Three weeks later, Mom had him all organized and set up -- and now he gets to play solitaire (she found and downloaded and installed that) IF she's not using the Palm for something. Dad's 82. Mom's 80. If you're looking at seniors as trainers, approach former high school teachers and professors. And don't neglect the veterans -- Mom was a Link Trainer Instructor (taught pilots to fly) in the Navy in WWII. Women who worked in technical fields find this sort of thing very satisfying. Jewelry: Ah, there's a business I just LOVE! Mobile showcases can be a good moneymaker -- but don't neglect local craft fairs and church bazaars. You have to be choosy about your venue because there's a lot of competition (tailor your jewelry to a specialty... like cats or pets...) but it's probably the most interesting and delightful business to be in. I've bought jewelry from small showcases like that -- some were at Chinese restaurants. |
