Hi Glenn, I moved to the Coral Coast area of Australia’s Southern most tip of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. It’s about a five hour drive north of Brisbane along the east coast. I helped Guide Dogs for the blind here raise money to train more Seeing Eye Guide Dogs with my pet photography but I don't photograph pets in volume anymore like I use to because of discovering a better way to skin a cat! Remember when ebay banned your “Naked Photographer” headline? I’ve been the only male at several “Hen’s Night Out Portrait Parties” lately but the wife doesn’t want to let me do those anymore. Mostly because we can make more in less time with less stress by staying home and doing a single one hour photo shoot. There is a woman who calls herself Shuttermom who is selling a Portrait Party Operations Manual on her website for $995 and people are excited because some have made $1,000 doing a portrait party. No thank you. My wife and I have developed a better way to capture good looks on film and earn more money with less work. But that doesn’t stop us from looking for even better ways. We decided to combine our talents together and we came up with "Antique Style Glamour Photography” (Check out our ebay store). Below is our most recent failure. This ad came out a week ago in a local coupon book. It cost us $369 and it was delivered to over 24,000 homes in our area. So far we have only gotten 3 bookings from it and I think it’s only attracting the freebie seekers. One buyer out of the 3 will more than pay for the ad but so far I consider this ad to be a complete waste of our time and dollars. But it pays to keep on testing. Today using my Marketing System for Pet Photography tweaked up a bit and applied to our Antique Style Glamour Portraits I was able to book 7 sessions in less than 2 hours. Way more effective than the $369 ad and it didn’t cost us a dime in advertising. Most of the other offers in the booklet our ad is in only offer a 5 – 10% off discount on purchases so we thought this ad would work well but so far it’s not working for us. Thank God for my no cost lead generator. That one single marketing tactic is responsible for 80% of our results! The rest of our business comes from referrals. Less than 1% comes from all the print media ads we have used combined. My wife and I are spoiled now because instead of travelling to set up our equipment at different locations each day and handling a bunch of yapping mutts for 8 – 12 hours a day we get to stay home and do 2 or 3 one hour Antique Style Photo Shoots in the comfort of our own living room. Not only is it more relaxed, fun and easier to shoot photos this way but it’s also more profitable than doing pets. I still brag in my ebay pet photo auction about how I made a little over $5200 on a weekend pet photography shoot but that was shooting non stop from 9am – 10 pm for two days. High profits but also high stress. Now my wife and I have discovered a better, more glamorous way. I’m still searching for a lower cost more effective way to flood a photo studio with clients and for over a year have been offering a $5,000 Cash Reward to anyone who can show us how but so far nothing else comes close to my Automatic Photo Lead System! If anyone on SOW has any ideas of how to make a print ad for photography work I’d appreciate hearing from you. There may be a $5,000 reward in it for you. No charge. ========================= Or We might use a Christmas offer a friend uses at his Health Club. He grows his customer list by 50% with ONE Xmas mailing. Hi Glenn, Now until Christmas is our busiest time of the year and we are close to being booked out until mid December. Jan – May is our slow periods and because I’ve help several non profit groups I am very interesting in testing your ideas here in OZ. If they increase my income and are less costly to implement that what I’m already doing then my $5,000 will pay back big dividens. Your F_R_E_E Referral System and lots of testing at local businesses is ALREADY bringing you more Antique Photo Family leads than you can call back. You made it clear you don't want to work week days. You want to stick to working weekends only. So more gigs won't work. Since you are booked solid... Here are a couple of proven ideas to BOOST your Income. Make more - work less. #1 - You can RAISE Your Prices. (Which requires you to mail a questionnaire to past b uyers asking, "Which of these items or services would you pay more for? We can help with that. We have clients that have done this already. Some ideas might work in Australia.) We discussed how crazy people are about their pets. You and your wife (Who has the design skills) - might test a Antique Doggie Dress UP Service. (Great publicity value.) AND - Since 2 out of 3 say "NO" - Because the rest of the family are scattered. ADD a service where you put a distant face into the photo Digitally. (I've got web experts who can do it. I'll ask what software they use.) THIS will require a website - so you can show Before and After Results and Testimonials. But you WILL Raise your prices successfully. CLOSE rate should jump too. #2 - Up-sell something else. Our work with an affluent Glamour Photographer taught us that: Women will pay LARGE amounts of money. 1000's actually. It's funny. They bill their boy friend or husband. But what gets the women EXCITED is the chance to learn Step by Step how to Look TOTALLY different. They want to dramatically Change how they look. Make-overs are done on TV yr after yr on talk shows - AMAZINGLY popular. You could use a low cost website to show them - Before and After photos of women your wife has worked on. You said you have a JV with a Beauty Parlor. Farm out some of the make-over business there. You are selling into a powerful psychological thing. Because millions of women change their hair, color, style - Change their cosmetics, clothing When you show them how to become Unrecognizable to family, friends. They GET EXCITED. (women are natural chameleons.) I personally experience this when shop girls, receptionists and clerks Do the Face and Hair Make-over thing on me. Then giggle in delight when I don't recognize them. Hi Glenn, I don't think I made myself clear. For every 3 calls I make I get one to make a booking right then but most of them can only get their family members all together on the weekends. That’s not bad considering that each session is worth about $500 to us. On average only one in three turns our offer down. One makes a booking and the third wants to book but needs to get everyone to have a look at their work schedule and come up with a day and time they can all make it. That’s usually on a weekend. We would like to do more sessions on weekdays because it’s no problem getting them to come in on the weekend. Cheers, Steve |

People are skeptical enough on the internet as it is, and posting something like this as an unregistered user who only gives a first name doesn't do anything to boost his credibility. I also agree with Steve that a good story can help sell just about anything, but just what kind of prospects is this guy going to attract by advertising photos of pretty girls in revealing outfits? The name of the game isn't attracting all the unqualified suspects that you can handle, it's getting targeted, quality prospects who might seriously be interested in what you're selling - at least as far as I'm concerned. Actually - its been proven that adding women's pictures help sell goods for more money. And proven by economists. Not admen. Economists persuaded a South African bank to run some tests with their direct mail campaigns. Some 53000 letters were sent to businesses asking them if they would like to borrow money. Interest rates on all these letters varied. Some letters had a picture of an attractive lady on it. Some didn't. The letters that did have the picture got as high a response rate as the letters that charged 4% lesser interest rate for borrowing money. For eg: a letter that promised 4% interest rate might get 2% response rate. A letter that promised 8% interest rate might get a 1% response rate. But a letter that promised 8% interest rate and which had a picture of a woman would get 2 % response rate too. Worked for banks. Might work for selling cars too. |
