PLEASE don't ask me ...
This morning I received another email saying, "Since you are one of the best ad copywriters in the country, could you look at my sales letter and tell me if it will sell my product?"
I wrote the following in response and thought I would share it with you ... "My opinion of your sales letter would be worth less than nothing - and - anyone who would give you an opinion is either a fool or a con-man. "Many moons ago, a legendary mailorder guru told me one of my sales pieces was the BEST he had ever read ... he even wanted my permission to steal parts of it. -- It failed miserably. (He told me later that the parts he used also bombed.) "In another instance, another famous mailorder guru told me to just quit writing sales copy and get a job. -- The ad copy he hated pulled a constant 11% to 17% response against rented lists. (It was only a $10 item but it was profitable.) "Opinions are like noses, everybody has one. -- The only thing that counts is the results of your own testing." So ... PLEASE don't ask me to review your sales copy. My opinion isn't any better than anyone elses; even your own. Jim Warning! Warning! Warning! |
