Interesting post Boyd. I have just finished
a fairly exhaustive look back at many of the major inventions in last 200 years. Care to guess at what the #1 technique was for inventing highly successful products? Serendipity. That's right, most of them were created to solve a smaller problem or simply were stumbled upon by accident - much like your web surfing example. The halfbakery site is just super. Very closely aligned with what master innovator Joey Reiman talks about in his book "Thinking for a Living" He talks about ideas being this generations real currency. In fact, his newest project has taken him from years in the advertising industry to running idea generation groups.
