Default how to reach a niche market

hi everyone

I am a student in Marketing, I am going to hand in a dissertation the 14th of august 2002, My subject is about selling some niche Cd music to a niche Market.

so far all my analysis is based on my survey and interviews because no one has ever done anything about this market, however, I am a bit stocked when it comes to:
1. define my target group
2. the kind of distribution channels should I use, knowing that my company ( the I am writing my dissertation for) is a small one with a small cash

I will be more than happy to get a little help from you

Thank you in advance

Default Niche markets for music CDs....

I'm not sure what you're asking.... Do you mean selling to a specific niche market, or selling to niche markets in general?

I did a bit of searching, and came up with some interesting examples of successful niches for music CDs (and I'm sure there are hundreds more!).

One niche is classical music CDs for babies.... (Yes, babies!). You can see some of these at the "Baby Einstein" company....

By the way, the founder of this company, Julie Aigner-Clark, started her company by self-publishing her educational products for babies.... She recently sold her "Baby Einstein" company to Disney for $25 million! You can read about her (and many others) in the Self-publishing Hall of Fame....

Also, here's another article about someone creating music especially for kids.... Here in Australia, a group called The Wiggles have been very successful doing essentially the same thing - making music especially for kids. I read a news story about the Wiggles once - it said that their members at first wanted to be a rock band of some kind, but to pay the bills, they did kids' shows.... And they found out how lucrative making music for kids could be. It was an undeveloped niche market. :)

Another example of a niche market for CDs is the various kinds of "ethnic" music you can find.... Whether it's Mexican music, Russian music, Chinese music, Turkish music, etc. Here in Australia, you can also buy traditional Australian Aboriginal music.... Although these may not always be "niche markets" in their own homelands, they do become "niche markets" when sold outside of their native countries....

Another niche CD market is music and sounds designed to induce your brain into a relaxing theta-wave state.... Here's an example (and there are many more you can find if you search around)....

Yet another niche is royalty-free music.... If you do a search for "royalty free music" you'll find a lot of examples. This is music which is sold to people to put on their videos, use as background music on their own spoken-word CDs, and so on.... An interesting niche market as well. :)

Lastly, another niche I can think of are pleasant animal sounds. For example, I know people buy CDs of bird songs, whale songs, dolphins.... This is a definite niche! I'm not sure if you count it as "music" for your purposes, but it's interesting nevertheless.... :)

I don't know if that helps.... I'm sure there are plenty of other examples around too.... :)
