Gordon...with your background as a social worker you know there are many people who do what they think is "working"...but often it lands them right into jail,debt,homeless etc... Often I think people know what they need to do but because of their conditioning/response to stimuli(some of which is unconscious)i.e pavlov's dog training experiment, they do not make "wise" decisions... Now the same holds true for many of us who think we are nice normal" people. We often repeat defeating behavior because of condition/ response behavior which might even cause us to land in jail,become homeless etc.. My point is ...don't you think some people have to hit rock bottom before they wake up from their hypnotic state? Also many people who appear to be "successful" are in fact reacting to some past trauma. Perhaps they had demanding parents and they've always had to get all "a's" for example. And for these people "success" might be defined as "not reacting " to other people's agendas and being true to themselves. |
