![]() Hi Michael, Bob, Mary, Gordon....
I have NOT read the book, so I am uniquely UNqualified to comment on it.... But... Here I go anyway. :) Actually, I wanted to link to a web page about the publishing phenomenon of Jonathan Livingston Seagull.... Scroll about halfway down the page (past all the links).... It's an article originally from the LA Times, from 1993. In that article, it says there was no promotion.... It was purely word-of-mouth.... Another recent best-seller which happened that way too was "The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" (which was recently made into a movie).... I believe that was also purely word-of-mouth.... Not having read "Seagull", but having read the comments, I think it was probably the right book at just the right time and the right place to strike a chord.... Read the article linked to above.... It also reveals something about Richard Bach's process in writing the book. Apparently that little book took him years to write.... Also, in the article, Richard Bach says, "People were seeing things in 'Jonathan' that I had no idea were there." - Dien |
