Re: HELP...I need more info to give to NEWBIES, what have you got?
Hello Gordon,
I don't have much expertise to provide info for you. So, I will simply give you my thoughts. Value? Two cents. :-) > I'd like to include a more detailed section > for newbies, like how and where to get > stuff, where to find useful HELP...and a > Question and Answer section too. Based on my own experience with the learning curve (of which I'm still in), what you are proposing would be EXCELLENT for newbies. I know I could have used something like this when I began. > What ONE piece of advice would YOU give to a > newbie (other than telling them to get over > to sowpub)??? DON'T get caught up in the Internet Hype! > Let's say a person comes on-line. And they > actually WANT to make money, not just talk > about wanting to do it. > What would YOU advise? Now, I'm assuming > your experience is based on what you have > done... I don't feel qualified to give anyone that type of advice ... at least, not yet. :-) > OR what TIME you wasted in the learning > process. My biggest problem was I didn't know HOW to get the info I needed. So, I spent WAY too much time digging, scratching, and trying to find someone who had the answers to my questions. Which is why I fell into the trap of "Internet Guru Hype." > Personally, I don't find people to willing > to do what needs to be done, they seem to > spend a lot of time getting ready to do, but > never get around to it. Hmmm, that comment makes me feel better. Why? Because several times I have thought about quitting. Yet, I keep on keeping on. On a note: the one time I really thought about tossing in the towel, it was my ISP/Webhost provider who gave me an encouraging pep talk. > We all have started and stopped projects, > and gone off in search of something else... > but what is it that you feel a NEWBIE really > needs to know about the Internet? 1) That it is not simply a matter of putting up a web site, register with the SEs ... and bing, bang, boom ... the traffic FLOODS to your site. I have gone to "Internet Seminars" where the speakers make internet success sound as easy as slicing warm butter with a warm knife. Side note: Why do I go? I LOVE going to seminars to listen to the speakers ... and then I critique them in my mind. Hey, some people collect stamps and others collect baseball cards. :-) 2) Where to find HONEST answers based upon TESTING ... not theories! > I've covered most of my opinions in BYBA, > but I'm going to revise it, make it more > readable take out most of the last section, > increase the RESOURCES section, and trim it > down. > I'd appreciate whatever help and/or advice > you can render. I hope this helps. But as I stated earlier ... it's just my 2 cents worth. > I'd be glad to include your web site in the > resource section if you want. Good luck with your new project, Gordon.
