![]() Hi Gordon,
My video of "Elmer Gantry" finally arrived in the mail today! (Gordon recommended this video early on in the forum....) I eagerly opened the wrapping and popped it in the VCR... and watched transfixed for the next 2+ hours.... :) It's a great film! What you said here reminded me of it.... > I don't blame you. They do have a > "cult" like effect on some people. > That effect is for people to feel a kinship > with their upline, and the buy into all that > RAH-RAH stuff. > Personally, I hated pep rallies in high > school, I resented being forced to > "cheer" for the team...it bugged > me. Heheh, I think I feel the same way.... :) The film "Elmer Gantry" was about a salesman who becomes a (hypocritical) preacher in the "revivalist" movement.... It was interesting seeing him whip up an audience to a frenzy.... And this was "kind of" like what I've seen in MLM, in a way. I don't think MLM is bad, but the way *some* practice it may not be the best.... (I have to stress that not all do it this way, many MLMers are very ethical and good to learn from and emulate...) I joined Herbalife for a few months. The technique my "upline" used there was they encouraged you to have your own "miracle" story (for want of a better description).... Something like, "I used (some product's name here) and my (illness here) disappeared!" And every weekly meeting, there would be a session where people would stand up and say their stories (in front of the new prospects).... There was always something a bit fishy about that, I thought... There was lots of "hype".... But anyway.... Your comments reminded me a bit of "Elmer Gantry"! It was a great film (Burt Lancaster won an Oscar for "Best Actor" -- and he deserved it!).... Dien Rice P.S. On a completely different note, your latest additions to Remote Hypnosis were great.... I've really enjoyed them and they're very useful.... Thank you! :) |
