![]() I've always wanted to have some fun with vanity publications - variations of the Who's Who Directories that have existed for years offline.
Early on, I reserved several domains to use for creating sites along those lines. Sites such as: ArtistsOfTheWorld.com, ArtisansOfTheWorld.com - thinking I would sell each artist/artisan a 'page' on this site for a small fee on which they could have their bio and a link to their existing website showing their artwork... if they have one. Or create a place for that purpose in another site I have planned for that purpose - ShowcaseOfArt.com PeopleToKnow.com - thinking that all the salesmen of the world (as well as other professions too) who don't need a website, but would enjoy having a webpage on a site like PeopleToKnow.com where they could have an 'expanded' online business card with their photo and a little more information about themselves and why you should do business with them. More info than they could possibly put on their standard business cards but the card would have the URL for their individual page on the PeopleToKnow.com site where people could be directed to get better acquainted with them, if desired. The content of their individual pages on this site would be up to them. We (another family project) are launching another somewhat vanity site now - the home page is up for http://www.WorldFamousPets.com which is sort of a tongue-in-cheek Who's Who for petowners to show off their distinguished pet to the world via this domain. For a short period of time, I'd like to offer a complimentary page to the sowpub forum guests and visitors who want to honor their distinguished pet for all the world to view on the web. Just send me an email if you want to join the fun and I'll give you the details about how to include ,for no charge, your pet on WorldFamousPets.com No mention of the owner's name or address will be included - to insure privacy. We also have several other names registered for creating vanity photo sites, such as WorldsCutestBabies.com...(imagine the parents being able to brag that their baby is listed in the 'World's Cutest Babies' Registry...:) Of course it may take years to get the various sites up and running. :) Just thought I might trigger an idea for someone else on this forum who wants to do their own version of a special niche 'who's who' or vanity photo 'registry' for the web. With a small fee for each 'page' entry, it could possibly turn into a lucrative project. Cheers! Amber |
