Default Whats Better For A New Site A Blog Or Website

Hi,

Whats better a Blog or a website for starting a new site, I'm going to have a protected directory that will not be available unless they keep subscribed to my ezine or purchase a product.

I'm leaning towards wordpress because of Tagging & Social Bookmarking,
how quickly you can get content listed in search engines & blogs.

I heard horror stories about installing wordpress & I don't want to spend
a week trying to get it installed.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Wordpress offers the best of both worlds as you can use it to maintain a blog and also include "static" pages like a more traditional website would have. If you think you can write enough regular content to justify a blog then by all means go for it, but I've seen many blogs started with good intentions fall apart when their owners didn't update them on a regular basis.

I've installed Word Press many times without a hitch, but most web hosting companies offer wordpress as a 1-click install that should make the process painless for you. Check with your host to see if they offer this (and that they offer the most current version of WP), and if they don't, you may want to find another host! :-)

Good luck!

Steve

Default *Yawn!* How To Write A Blog So People Will Yawn

A good friend of mine has a terrible weakness. Whenever someone yawns, she always catches it!

She tries to stifle it... You can see her try. But within a minute, her yawn always comes out.

Why are yawns "viral"? Gee, if you could put an advertising message in a yawn... But I digress!

Here's how NOT to write a blog... Here are some real blog entries...:

Quote:
Tidying some pencils (March 16)
Some pencils were scattered around on my desk. I picked them up one by one. I placed the pencils in the drawer which I use to store pencils.

Opening a cupboard door (October 17)
There was a cupboard in the corner of the room. I reached out my hand and gripped the door handle. I pulled the door towards me, thereby opening the cupboard.

Standing in the middle of the room (April 21)
I was standing at a central point in the room. The walls were all at approximately the same distance from me. I continued to stand there for a few moments.

These come from "The dullest blog in the world" http://www.wibsite.com/wiblog/dull/ .

There's also "The world's most boring blog" http://mostboringbloginuniverse.blogspot.com too!

It has "exciting" entries like...

Quote:

glass of water poured, drunk.
I went to my refridgarator today. I took out a pitcher in which I had placed hydrogen two oxygen, also known as water, because I wanted the water at the ideal temprature before I drank it. I then poured a glass of water at about 2/3 to the glass's maxium capacity. I then proceeded over the next half our to drink the water.

Hmm...!

What Steve says is right. There's something called "Fantastico" which some web hosts have. If you have Fantastico on your web host, it will have a list of programs you can install, essentially with one click. One of the web hosts I use (BlueWho) has this set up. I recommend (as Steve says) contacting your web host to see if they have WordPress available to be installed via Fantastico...

Best of luck with your blogging!

- Dien

Hi Mike,

Here's a post with some very good Wordpress and Blogging stuff!
http://www.sowpub.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5880

But keep in mind Blogging Saturation is starting to become a Topic that will be discussed more and more as we move into 2007...

As Millions more pile on Daily.

The Big Queston is...

How much Time and How many Blogs and Websites can people really keep on reading?

Unless it something So Special...

It has to be on our Must read Everyday list of things to Do!

Creatively Do that and the Media...

Might just make you Famous.

Regarding the Wordpress installing concern...

If you're worried about all the technical stuff you read about and unfortunately there's more than the install...

A good idea is to hookup to a small web host/webmaster who will give you personalized help and assistance.

Even though you hear of many web host horror stories, there are Lots of good guys with great customer service ready to help...

And reading interesting Wordpress Blogs on Wordpress and posting comments is good place to Find them.

Phil
