No - you don't have to register the domains through them to host with them. Just to clarify: You don't need a web host if you are just looking into domain parking - sedo.com takes care of that and is free. Also - you can search for "dreamhost coupon" on google and find a coupon code that will give you $97 off for the first year. That way, it'll just cost you $23 or so for first year of hosting. After that, it'll be back to $10 a month. -- It would be great if you could share your $4.95 domain registrar with us. |

Sure thing its www.netfirms.com just signed up my first domain. I got the link from about.com so I presume their reasonably adequate. They also give you 25mb free web hosting, which is enough if you want to create a very basic landing website. To find my domain name I used a misspelling of betfair.com (a UK betting exchange that generates good traffic). I found my variation through a misspelled domain generator this gave me my domain (betfakr.com) that obviously exchanges the i to a mistyped k, quite a nice tool. Although I did have to search through about 20 misspellings to find an available misspelling (just shows you people must be doing this). I created a sedo account. I then used my netfirm control panel to forward this domain to my new sedo.com parking account. I have also changed the keyword to optimize my advertisements, although this can take up to 48 hrs. I don't really care if I lose money it's a very interesting concept. For $5 I couldn't resist. Keep you posted.. oh yeah thanks for the coupon tip! PS: Might have to register, haven't been around sowpub since the forum changed to this version. Looks nice |

Sorry Ankesh I left out some vital info.
The $4.95 price is for the 1ST year ONLY.. It than reverts back to $9.95 There is also a 5 domain name limit. But like I said it's only a trial so I'm happy paying half-price to test this idea out for a year. I'll probably register 5 and see how it pans out. Although there was another $5 domain host I'll look it up again and get back to you... |

I know this guy is selling something ,just cant figger out what ...is the 301 redirect an 'internet' term?
Yes. By registering a bunch of domain names and simply parking them on your main domain you have created a group of domains all having exactly the same website and web content. It's called duplicate content and in the eyes of all major search engines it is just plain "BAD" practice and your site WILL be penalized. So does that mean you must create different websites for each of the domains? Well, you could if you really wanted but that would be a lot of hard work - wouldn't it? The solution is a simple 301 direct. Using a 301 direct on each of your domain names you are able to redirect the domain to you main website address and will not be penalized by the search engines. In fact they like the 'good-old' 301. It will actually IMPROVE your ranking. So remember, registering multiple domains is an excellent strategy for driving extra traffic to your site BUT just be sure to use the 301 redirect command on each otherwise you will be penalizing yourself! |
