Default Addendum

Years ago (70's) when I began pounding the pavement in an 18 wheeler doing long haul I would leave tips even though there was a great possibility of never stopping there again.

Then for a year I was doing an inter-province run daily and ate breakfast at the same stop every morning. Pretty much daily there would be 2 - 4 drivers from the company that would stop there for breakfast also about the same time and then head off in the direction of the runs for the day.

There were 4 waitresses and 3 weren't the greatest....4 days and 4 different waitresses. On the 5th day I got the good one for the second time.

After I was done I flipped over the paper placemat and drew a large circle. Within the circle I placed 3 quarters and six nickels (back then this was just a little over the 20%).....2 eyes, a nose, and 6 nickels for the mouth....with eyebrows over the 2 quarters for the eyes....and left...that was Friday and I was the last driver to leave as I had a short run that day and was in no hurry so I nursed a second cup of coffee....most days it was in and out pretty quickly.

The following Monday when I walked in the waitress spoke and said my coffee was on the table and pointed to it. I ordered the same breakfast as I had all the previous 5 days...and she asked if I ate the same thing every day...and the answer was yes.

Now the thing about this was the restaurant was situated such that the windows looked out over the parking lot as well as the off ramp to get to the restaurant...and I was driving for a company with unique looking tucks and a well known name on the highway here... and each truck just a little different. That being said....

On the Tuesday after the coffee was in place....when I walked in...the waitress said it was on the table and pointed me to it...and there sat my breakfast and coffee all ready and waiting for me...and so it was each morning from then on until I switched runs a year later back to long haul. She would see my truck coming on the off ramp and put in the order....and by the time I got parked, hit the washroom, and then entered the restaurant was enough time for the breakfast to be cooked and sitting waiting for me....all because of a smiley face tip....and yes I did keep tipping but not with the smiley face.

And the other drivers never did figure out why my breakfast was always ready and waiting )

Addendum...I was switching runs just after the Christmas holiday....in the course of kibitzing with the waitress the week before Christmas I found out that she had asked Santa for a certain sweater but their finances wouldn't allow for it.....so on the 24th of December (my last day on the run), and after I had finished breakfast and gone out to the truck I came back in and handed her a wrapped present and abruptly turned around and left...on the package a smiley face with the words "Just Because"...and tucked inside a little note saying--"Just a little extra thanks and appreciation for making my days a little easier"....my runs never took me back that way again.

Default Re: Another situation - doing favors for a murderer...

Hi Dien:

Interesting read on the murderer.

Quote:

One way I see it is that, businesses give out "freebies" all the time, with the express purpose of getting more business.

What's more "unusual" here is that it is the customer now doing it. But if businesses can give out a "freebie", then why not customers, too?

Yes but this is done with the owners permission as a goodwill to bring back customers...not because an employee received an extra unexpected gratuity that he felt compelled to reciprocate with at the employers expense.

This was what got me in Glenn's post:

Quote:

You are Welcome to TRY OUT my SURE FIRE...

GUARANTEED.

Take it to the Bank.

Way to Get F-r-e-e Food and Hugs and Royalty Treatment
AND EXTRA Moolah...

Sorry it just did not sit well with me.

If you read my addendum ....I left the tip with just a twist hoping to bring a smile to the waitresses face...never expecting anything in return other than the level of service that she had already demonstrated.....and I never would have provided the present had I been going to continue stopping there as I wouldn't want any feeling of indebtedness.

Perhaps from the above paragraph you can see where my point of view comes from.

It's a great principle to test and use...

In the direct mail field, they sometimes call it a "freemium" (a combination of a "free premium")... Here's a good article about it...

However, what Glenn's post really shows that this principle works everywhere! A "free gift" - even a small one - will often lead to an improved response...

Personally, I like receiving free gifts...

I should give them out more!

Dien:

I whole heartedly agree with this...in reference to my earlier grumble the difference being that it was Meyer's own product here that he was doing this with.

In the past I have added a nice crisp dollar bill in direct mail as an incentive...unfortunately Canada did away with the 1 dollar and 2 dollar bill and replaced them with coins...so now it means a 5 dollar bill if we want to do this here in Canada.

Just posted this response so that you would know that I wasn't in total disagreement with Glenn's post.

Thanks Cornell, that's a great story!

It also shows the power of reciprocity in helping in life...

Thank you for sharing that!

Best wishes,

Default Why Gary Halbert Tipped By Giving Cars & A House

Thanks Guys,

Gary Halbert taught me to tithe in ways that ATTRACT 10 to 100
TIMES more munny than I give away.

TRUE.

I've seen Gary give a valued staffer a 1 yr old Mercedes.

Others have told me they got nearly new automobiles too.

One fellow tells me Gary gave him a house!

YIKES.

I'm working very diligently at boosting the size of my Tithing too.

Gary generated massive amounts of LUCK.

You can't measure Good-Will.

But you CAN Track things such as Moolah, Munny, Gold.

He attracted multi-million dollar clients. Earned huge fees. And did it
while wearing a T-shirt or hat that said, "All Clients Suck."

(EDITOR'S NOTE - Just spotted an article about owner of 421 million
dollar "Padagonia" who ran a Wall Street Journal and Magazine ad
with a headline - "Don't Buy This Shirt." Got 1000's of new buyers.)

BACK TO
1.00
LOTTO TIPPING.

The Goodwill and Reciprocity Rewards are amazing.

But it's tough to get others started.

So.

I start small.

Tithing takes Salesmanship. You try walking up to a total stranger and giving
them a 1.00 bill or a 20.00 - many can't do it.

But a 1.00 LOTTO ticket is easier.

AND
let's Focus
on EMPATHY.

IF you've ever worked as a waiter/waitress.

You've been ignored.
Insulted.
Verbally and physically assaulted. (Pushed, shoved, tripped)
Cursed.
Fired because a customer complained to the manager.

ALL of the above have happened to me.
And I've seen much worse done to others.

THINK.

COGITATE.

Slow down and consider what happens if your waiter or waitress FEARS YOU?

DISLIKES YOU.

Expects - at best - to be ignored and taken for granted.

HA!

This is Exactly how - you - a Stranger are perceived.

But...

JUST SUPPOSE Your Cashier LOVES YOU!

What If you "Smile, Say "Please and "Thank you AND Hand out LOTTO Tickets.

You Become a God or Goddess (In contrast to others)
in the eyes of the wait staff.

TEN YEARS AGO Dan Kennedy told me he tips with 20.00 bills.

WANNA' BET he's not using 100.00 bills today?

TRY IT.

Thanks,
Glenn Osborn

P.S. - My Wendy's Example above doesn't happen all the time. Especially
when I visit a new Restaurant.

But here's what DOES HAPPEN.

I get EXTRA- ORDINARY service and food.

AND

Every time I eat with a client.

I send 5 bucks back to the chef. Tip the waiters and wait staff with
Scratch Off Lotto tickets and 1.00 bills each time they visit the table.

Others get their food late. It's over-cooked. Under-cooked. Of poor
quality. And all kinds of other problems crop up.

ME?

The waitress and cooks coddle me. Hover and know my name.

WHY?

Because I GIVE Their Tip BEFORE the meal. Smile and Praise and say, "Thank You."

All the F-r-e-e stuff - AT THE Restaurant - is a fun way to measure the
POSITIVE ENERGY you've created.

But the Big PayDay comes from opening that big universal door.
Pay-it-Forward pays off. Not right away - but always.

Hi Glenn,

Thanks again for sharing this... I believe it's a hugely important tip...

Of course, having a generally "generous" spirit can help too, in your day-to-day dealings with people. It cements relationships... People want to help you too, if they've received help from you.

One lesson I've had in the past is that... as the saying goes, "no man is an island" (or woman, for that matter).

Every success you've had, in 99.9% of cases, there have been others who helped you in some way. Whether they were mentors, colleagues, partners, suppliers, friends, family, and so on...

Certain relationships are important. The right relationships open the right doors - sometimes when you least expect it!

I like to do favors for people... and I know, in return, people have done favors for me, sometimes just out of nowhere, but also sometimes at a time when I critically needed the help. I didn't "plan" it that way - but in retrospect, I've noticed that, this is the way the world works...

Thanks again, Glenn!

Best wishes,

Dien

Default VIP Client Gets Nearly Free Lunch

Thanks Guys,

Great Feedback as always.

I didn't Intend to be controversial.

Anyway.

A Note from a client who doubled his income - last year with my help.

Glenn Osborn

-------------------------
-------------------------
My $1 bill testimonials are too numerous to share or remember because I am
always sharing, it has been ingrained in me by my parents and grandparents.

Friday morning, lady next store needed quarters for washer so she could wash her husband's clothes(they are both retired), so he could go out and cut our's and the neighbor's lawn. Mrs. M had the $1 and she wanted the quarters in exchange.

I gave her the quarters and didn't take the $1 bill in return...

THAT would go against the grain of GIVING away $1 bills, right? When I got home from working early Friday evening, Mrs. M came out with a container of leftovers for me to eat for dinner.

Thanks again for all your help.
Kevin

Kevin ordered my Pay-It-Forward System...

Including my 365 day - 200% Munny Back Guarantee.

Default What Ax Murderers and Waiters & Waitresses Have in Common

Thanks Cornell,

Years ago I worked as a Janitor and a waiter so I have a lot of Empathy for
service people.

AND

I use Instant LOTTO scratchers to get time to talk with them. And then
measure my progress toward deeper and deeper rapport by any Rewards I get Back.

Smiles.
Laughter.
Giggles.
Better service.
Extra food
and
Extra Cash back and Positive Energy.

BECAUSE of My CHATS with Waiters and Waitresses. (And my own personal
Experience.) I know they are ignored, cussed at, spat upon and all kinds of
other nasty stuff - by customers who think just cuz they are paying
they can Mis-treat people.

THIS is Why I Think Service People Are - in many ways - treated like Mass
Murderers. Very Rarely do they get a kind word.

So when You Treat Them Like VIP's
they reciprocate.

=============
A Recent Restaurant Case Study -

This past weekend my Dad and I went to a Buffet Restaurant. The cashier
was white haired, tired and looked more dead than alive.

Had all the PEP of a convict breaking rocks with a maul.

So.

I revved up my Energy and Twinkled at her.

While Dad was reading the menu on the wall I told Sally, "I'd like to Thank
and Reward you for helping my father and me. I was just at a gas station
where the clerk won 60 BUCKS!"

BIG SMILE.

"And I want to Share His GOOD LUCK with you! So here's a Instant Scratch
Off Lotto ticket - Just for you!"

Well.

This woman LIT up. Her cheeks got color in them. She smiled. She said
"THANK YOU" and actually stuttered like a little girl.

She stood straighter and seemed invigorated.

I - We got seated close to the buffet.

II - She went into the Kitchen and Actually DRAGGED a waitress over to our
table.

III - She gave us 4.00 back. In the form of senior citizen discounts
tho I don't qualify. And restaurant policy is that staffers DO NOT give the senior citizen discount unless asked.

Thanks,
Glenn Osborn

P.S. - This is the REASON WHY I have the BRASS to offer a 200%
Munny back Guarantee on my Pay-it-Forward System.
