![]() ...When you have ice, play ice golf!
(Okay, maybe it doesn't roll off the tongue as smoothly. But you'll see what I mean...!) It may be freezing outside (depending on where you live)... But that doesn't stop some people from getting out on the "green"... err, I mean the "white"... and hitting a few golf balls around! Instead of a golf course, they choose a frozen pond. ![]() And those who are real keen, can go to Greenland for the World Ice Golf Championship! ![]() Call me crazy... But I may just stay in with a hot cup of cocoa! ![]() - Dien P.S. You can find out more about these here... Thanks Phil... Some great links! I liked the story of how Netflix got founded too... It's always fascinating to find out how various businesses get started... ![]() Also... Quote:
I like this article. People have to change some things due to the times... It takes some creativity. However, if you look around, you'll find various people responding - and what they're doing is working... I keep a close eye on some of this stuff... For example, what about the free Denny's breakfast that happened recently? They got huge publicity, and I'm sure it's resulted in increased patronage of their restaurants... With people hurting, what better offer than a free breakfast? (They did charge if you wanted some extra toast, though...) http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/city..._coffee_an.php Now, here's another unusual one... The promotion is over now, but it's still a great example. One luxury resorts company has had business go down. So they hit upon this next promotional idea... They'll exchange stock for a stay at one of their Caribbean resorts! Not only that... They'll value your stock at the value it was at on July 1, 2008! It's like being able to "wind the clock back" on your stocks by six months... With stocks having gone down, many people would consider it a great deal... (To limit their downside, the company will only accept stock in about 100 "blue-chip" companies... They're probably betting that these stocks will eventually go back up...) If nothing else, they've gotten good publicity out of it! http://www.examiner.com/x-1092-Carib...-the-Caribbean I think those are couple of other examples of companies that have taken "lemons" from the economic downturn, and made "lemonade", by doing something a little differently... ![]() Dien Last edited by Dien Rice : February 18, 2009 at 09:34 PM. |

When life gives Chuck Norris lemons, Chuck kicks life in the groin, and then chokes the living life out of life...and therefore, life knows better than to give Chuck Norris lemons...or else life would be forever known as death. And when death gives Chuck lemons? He's too scared to death to even try. HA! |

![]() Dien,
Thanks for the memories. I recall Denny's when I was in the USA over a decade ago. I remember consistently ordering their Hot Chocolate - it was winter after all. ![]() Also, at one Denny's the waiter added a Service Charge! What's that for? You're Australian and you Aussies don't tip so I added it to the bill! Result... not paid and no tip for the Hide of the man. Backfired on him big time. Everywhere else, we Tipped, as you do. ![]() Dear Dien,
Thanks. I betcha meet some FREE SPIRITS playing ice-golf! "When Life Hands You LEMONS Make Lemonade" How about This? "When the Network You Join is Full of **LEMONS** Look for the Farmer Who PLANTED The LEMON Tree." Recently I joined a Vegetarian meet up group. I was very disappointed. a - The retired fellow running it b uys all his Vegetarian products In Shrink Wrapped Packages. Nothing fresh. b - The Restaurants where the group meet have signs on the buffet written in Indian. (Not american Indian. India Indian) c - The Vegetarian sitting on my left - is complaining that the feral cats in his neighborhood are getting worse. When he goes out to feed them now. He has to take TWICE as many bags of catfood. (The Genius is FEEDING them and making More Feral Cats!) I was all set to QUIT the group. Then got to thinking. How can the old retired guy AFFORD to b uy all his Organic food Shrink Wrapped? (I poked around and discovered his wife runs a Multi-million dollar catering biz.) I didn't want Anything to do with the Cat Guy. But his Family was very rich too. So. Even though the people in the Veggie MeetUp Group are LEMONY and Eccentric. In order to AFFORD this lifestyle - these people often have access to some BIG MUNNY. Thanks, Glenn P.S. - You can Check this out from your computer. Just google MeetUp and find 100's of meetings near you. You can also Check Out More "HOW-TO Munny From Home" Ideas Here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=tab%3DSelling |

Hi Glenn, That's an interesting insight into vegetarians! I never thought of it, but you could be right... I think to eat healthily as a vegetarian, you may need to spend more money than you do to eat healthily as a meat-eater. I once had a boss who was vegetarian; he told me he had to eat a lot more vegetarian foods every day to get the same amount of nutrients he got as a meat eater. (Although I'm not a vegetarian, one of my brothers is.) I'm a strong believer that often something can be a "blessing in disguise". It may seem "bad" at the time, but when you look at the "bigger picture", it may actually be a "blessing". Here's an interesting article about how, in some ways, a recession can be a "blessing in disguise". They say that during recessions, people tend to smoke less, drink less, lose weight, and study more. In addition, the air tends to be cleaner, and the roads safer... Apparently, this study also shows that, statistically, for every 1% increase in the unemployment rate, there's a 0.5% drop in the death rate! http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/com...cle4916300.ece Quote:

![]() Many of you will find this offensive, perhaps -- I'm sorry, I'm just a big fan of Sarah Silverman... one of her lines is... "when life gives you aids -- make lemon aids." now, before a firestorm erupts here, let me just say, the line is MEANT (by her) to be offensive -- and make a point (make (FORCE) people to examine their feelings about the disease). Pointing out absurdity by BEING absurd. It's a kind of black humor (DARK humor, not black/RACIAL humor) one must acquire a taste for -- and I realize not everyone shares that taste -- so, my apologies in advance.
