3) I was thinking of putting three per category to offer variety and allow the restaurants to compete with each other for placement, but I dont want to over complicate it.

Hey Woof.....thanks for your interest in this;

1) MY "J.O.B." in doing this is what?.....TO MAKE MONEY FOR ME, MYSELF AND I.....IN THE SHORTEST TIME and EASIEST way possible!

YUP.....so....when I visit a THAI restaurant .....find the owner and whip out my Mobile and....SHOW HIM/HER what MY Mobile Directory looks like....IN MY HAND (no question as to IF it will be done....IT'S ALREADY DONE!.....THEY CAN SEE IT IN MY FORMALLY NICOTENE STAINED HAND!

And....when I show 2 or 3 examples of EXCLUSIVES in other Food Categories (American - BBQ)......they UNDERSTAND the POWER of EXCLUSIVENESS.....AND HOW IT CAN....(pay close attention to the following words)......BRING THEM MORE DINERS AND PROFITS!!!!!!!!!

2) I usually do NOT....SHOW the Hotel "Mgr or Owner" what my Directory looks like!!!!! I've found (from EXPERIENCE) that....the MORE I show "Hotel Mgmt".....the MORE.....THEY want to CHANGE IT! ....or PREVENT IT! When I tell the Hotel Mgment my Directory will...Provide MORE "Service & Convenience to their Guests".....they usually don't even bother to "Take a Look"!

3) Sure.....it "appears" to you that; "Hey Don! I can get 3 restaurants paying me every month instead of ONE!" However.....from MY experience;
I can get QUICKER OKs for MY Fees by "Appealing to ONE of each Cuisine".... their GREED GLANDS" get active, by showing THEY can be the ONLY Thai Restaurant in the program!

So.....my advise is to.....make up a Sample Site (modeled after my www.mobisiteindex.com/princeton site)(with 2 or 3 local Demo Restaurants) and .....go visit some hotels.....telling them that YOU have a way to .....PROVIDE MORE SERVICE TO THEIR GUESTS.....because they have been traveling and are HUNGRY, and would like to know WHERE TO EAT!

AND.....DO NOT ASK THEM TO SIGN A CONTRACT OF ANY KIND!

Holy Camoly.....one of my "students" who lived in one of the greatest TOURIST towns (Niagara Falls, CANADA) paid a Lawyer to create a CONTRACT explaining what HE would provide and what the Hotel would provide!

He did as I told him.....initially.....which was to Show the Site I had created for his area (3 "Demo" Restaurants out of 25 different Cuisines) AND.....got their initial HANDSHAKE Permission. Then.....without consulting me....had a lawyer make up a "CONTRACT"! Which he asked each Hotel Mgr to SIGN!

OMG! Result was; ZIPPO PARTICIPATION

Look.....with ALL the Hotel programs I've done in the past 30 yrs....I have NEVER asked any Hotel/Motel to SIGN.....ANYTHING! I have made a BUNDLE with my Hotel/Motel projects.....with a simple VERBAL OKAY!

Golly geebees! It still bothers me, just thinking about the BONANZA this guy COULD have had .....if he wasn't SO concerned about "Crossing the T and Dotting the I's"

So.....Woof.....hope I've given you some info to go forward.

Hey Woof.....I'd like to RE-Iterate some things;

1) The "TOURIST" Season is coming up.

2) Jillions of people WILL be Traveling this year

3) When they arrive at their choice of "Over Night - Stay" (Hey! WE are HUMANS.....we NEED.....SLEEP)......just after they Check-In they enter their rooms and.....because they did NOT bring "FOOD" (another thing Humans NEED).....they "Look around to find Suggestions of WHERE TO EAT!"

So.....one of the best programs I've ever done is "PROVIDE HOTELS with AN ANSWER TO THEIR GUESTS....NEED.....FOR FOOD (Hey! Humans Need Food)

Wow! When I started showing Hotel/Motels HOW.....little ol' ME.....could provide their Guests with MORE "Conveniece and Comfort and Service".....my whole Income Goals were changed!

This is now.....March of the year 2015. MOST....if not ALL Hotel & Motel Owners & Mgrs are "Wondering".....what THIS Year will be!

Will 2015 be a BOOM year, for them....or a BUST!

So.....again from MY experience, after extensive Interviews, with Hotel/Motel owners & mgrs.....I found that....THEY are Deeply Concerned with 2 things;
1) How WHAT our present Non-Capitalist Gummit Regime will do
and
2) WILL our present Gummit cause Gas Prices to continue to stay low.... providing MORE Guests....or will it continue to Block efforts for MORE self-reliance (Obama's VETO of the PipeLine)

Whatever the answer.....I am STILL hopeful the MILLYUNS of businesses that depend on "Travelers & Tourists" will have a Good Year!

So.....as of now....March 2015.....I am going forward with plans to HELP the small biznesses in MY area (SW Oregon).....have a Prosperous year.

And......remember ONE thing; When providing anyone with a FREE service... do NOT have them "SIGN" a "Legal-Looking Document"! It scares the PeeWadin (an Oregon word) outa them!

I just wanted to point out, if you - as Don does - only allow one of each cuisine... It means if they don't say "yes" right away, they'll probably miss out!

They can't "think about it and tell you tomorrow"... Because, by tomorrow, another Thai restaurant could be there in its place...

It's human nature that we hate to miss out. (Or, in another word, it's a form of "scarcity"...)

If you allow, say, 3 Thai restaurants... Well, the first Thai restaurant won't be as motivated by "scarcity" - or the fear of "missing out" - as they would if you only allow one Thai restaurant...

It's 100% ethical, since you are doing exactly what you say you'll do - allow only one Thai restaurant in the directory...

Anyway, great lessons from Don...

One thing I love about Don is he's always a "straight shooter" when it comes to how to sell these kinds of programs...!

Also.....I forgot to mention;

"Exclusives" mean MORE Money! Years ago when I did a "Printed Town Directory" I DID offer 3 spots in each Category, of MANY Categories. I found I could only get $50 for a spot.....which meant $150/spot in MY pocket.

This was LOTS of "work" and because there was no "Sense of Urgency" I got a lot of, "Let me think about this!" I had to TRY and contact many prospects. Offering ONE Space meant fewer visits and $150 from ONE sponsor. SAME moola in my pockets.

Also.....in small "average" towns...working our Mobile Directory.......I found $197/mo to be the max I could get per spot BUT....in a "Tourist Town" with 3 Shakespearian Theatres appealing to the "Affluent".....my gal "Student" is "Knocking em dead" with $497/mo....which from just 20 sponsors....brings in our Goal of $10,000/mo (Way to go Emma!)

Don, thanks for following up and answering my questions.

I really appreciate your perspective on the one restaurant per category and you have convinced me. I realized wanting to offer three per was my own lack of confidence rearing its ugly head.

Revising the plan to follow your design.

I laughed out loud at the story of the guy who contacted the lawyer to make a contract for something free. What a maroon ( as bugs bunny used to say).

I have redone my sample site. I am finishing up the counter flyer and the hand out cards this weekend. Monday after I drop my daughter at school, I'll be out signing people up.

I'll update as things progress.

I might be crazy, but I love this idea. I love to see the momentum that Don’s brain gets to when he gets an idea and starts to develop and develop. I often find myself wondering (or worrying) that my entrepreneurial spirit is not quite like his. Does that make me jealous or simply realistic?

I'm a looker, not a doer. Mostly, I am paralyzed by the fear of failure, fear of being unprepared, and fear of being good enough.

I think we need to confront our own fears, and get over them. No. we're not a "Don Alm," and we're not a "GJA" ... so what? Right?

Robert, I have been there. Things to remember.
Failure is ok, we learn from it. It makes us better.
No one knows you are unprepared but you. Fake it until you make it.
You are the only one who thinks you aren't good enough. Your potential customers have no idea. Present them with someone who seems good enough and they will think you are. Remember you are good enough.
